Bree + Connor | Romantic Navy + Blush Gilbert Wedding

Traditions. Almost all weddings have them in some sort of way, whether it be the typical music a bride walks down the aisle to, sand or candle lighting at the ceremony, or even the games played at a wedding reception. However, the one I’ve loved SO much in all my years of photographing weddings was at Bree and Connor’s wedding at Wedgewood Weddings Lindsay Grove. They did a broom jumping ceremony after they were pronounced husband and wife.

Now, I’m sure of bunch of people are not aware of what this symbolizes. Many years ago, black men and women were not legally allowed to marry, so to unify and bless their marriage they would jump over a broom. It also was meant to ward off spirits by waving the grooms over their heads.

This was my first time ever experiencing this tradition. I wanted to make sure I captured the true essence of this tradition for Bree and Connor to remember for the rest of their lives so that they could show their children, grandchildren, and many generations to come.

I’m almost a couple years later, as their wedding in Gilbert was almost 2 years ago, but I thought there was no better time than now, These two have welcomed a beautiful baby into this world now, and I’m so proud of the individuals they have grown to be in just these few short years. To be a part of their special day was such a blessing, especially since I have known Bree since we were teenagers. May the Lord bless these two (now three!) in so many more ways, as I’ve never met a more deserving couple.
